Another great meeting of the Rotary Club of Caloundra Pacific
Ross Harrison opened the meeting by welcoming our guest speaker, Brendan Hogan CEO of WishList and partners Jan & Wendy.

Mike Healy proposed the International Toast to the Rotary Club of Wexford, Ireland.  Wexford Rotary meets on Monday for lunch twice a month. They were chartered in 1978 and one of their projects is a Remembrance Tree – where residents tie a ribbon to commemorate a deceased relative. Wexford is the ancestral home of John F Kennedy and is also of Mike’s Grandfather.

Ken Hinkly introduced our guest speaker, Brendan Hogan, CEO of WishList.

Brendan gave us an insight into the role and workings of WishList. They raise funds to purchase equipment that adds value and expertise to the five Sunshine Coast Hospitals from Gympie to Glasshouse over and above that which is funded by the State and Federal Governments.
They also have 3 accommodation premises for patients undergoing treatment at the hospitals. These are staffed and have many volunteers to help out. They distributed one million dollars last year.
Brendan also thanked our club for our support and donations over a long period of time.  Ken thanked Brendan for his presentation and the meeting acknowledged this by acclamation.

Terka’s report:
I was lucky to see River Fire from the 64th floor with Greig and Suzanne. It was beautiful – before the fireworks, planes and jets flew around. The fireworks lasted at about 20 minutes, and it was amazing. Afterwards, we went for a walk around Brisbane, and Greig showed me his favourite smoothie shop. Last weekend, Nicole and Bronwyn took me to Biloela so I could see the countryside of Australia. I’m really glad I got to experience something different. The trip took about six hours, but luckily I slept most of the way, so it went by quickly. We even went to the local horse races, and I got to pat one of the horses.
I am very grateful to Suzanne, Greig, Noel, and Bronwyn for giving me the chance to see another part of Australia.
I almost forgot one of my favourite experiences. Sharon took me riding on her horse. It was so much fun, I’ve really missed horses. We already planned another lesson, and I really appreciate Sharon for sharing this with me.

Sergeant Ross proceeded to fine everyone and close the meeting.

NOTEWORTHY
Due to the cancellation of the vocational visit to the Airport Tower, a social evening has been arranged at the Golden Dragon, please RSVP to Ross Harrison if you would like to go.

Win Fowles attended the Fisher Community Awards tonight at the Caloundra RSL Function Room. Les Pontin also was there. It was a worthwhile occasion, with a number of awards made to one winner from four or five finalists in each category.

Three category winners were of particular interest to CalPac members.

The Young Achiever of the Year award went to Maya Teerink, one of the three Kawana Waters State College Interact students we sponsored for the 2024 National Youth Science Forum. Maya and the other two students, now in Year 12, spoke to us on 13 February 2025 about their NYSF experience. Maya told me she's taking a gap year in 2026 (going to Italy and probably Japan) before starting an engineering degree. A most impressive young lady with a great future.

Daniel Giles from DV Safe Phone was awarded Employee of the Year. Ashton Wood, who has hosted us at DV Safe Phone where he praised Daniel's value, was in attendance.

The Community Group of the Year award went to Coast Guard Caloundra. Don Wilkie, our former longstanding member, has been active in the Coast Guard.
