Vocational Talk:
Joey Mogg, one of our youngest and newest members (4 months), presented a passionate account of her journey along the volunteer route her life has taken her. Starting with her childhood experiences of the family exposure through Thee Salvation Army and the Coast Guard to her last 3 years specifically discussing 3 major projects dear to her and partner Adam.
(1) A women who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and her desire to organize a final trip with her family was taken on by Joey’s fitness club who raised some $13,000 to help fund the trip
(2) Raising 1000 signatures for a petition to Council for a fenced Dog park in pelican Waters
(3) The Sunflower Challenge which incorporated sending via the letter boxes of Pelican waters residents 3,000 packets of Sunflower seeds with the BEST bloom to be awarded with a $1,000 prize. This was sabotaged by a CON MAN who did a runner and the whole mail out had to be repeated.
A sign of undaunting effort despite adversity. We look forward to drawing on your energy, Joey. Thanks for the insight into your journey.

Guest Speaker:
Clive Seymour took us through the recent trip to Philippines, accompanied by Ross, Malou, John, Suzanne and Grieg. Beautiful pictures of children enjoying themselves as well as the locals all embracing the work of Calpac.
The difficulties of Bayusan, still being neglected by health Education authorities as a penalty for having been a rebel stronghold some 15-20 years ago. The short journey from Cauysan to Bayusan, approx 104 klm, being 4 ½ hrs due to seasonal rain. The highlighted note is that the local director of Education did not even know there was a school in the Village that Calpac was working in!
Obvious highlights presented were not necessarily in order, Ross and Karaoke, Grieg being caught with his pants down. Suzanne and her choice of alternative travel arrangements, Malou being presented with plaque of honor for local ongoing self-initiated works in the region and of course Clive risking broken ankles doing a very fancy jig!
The message received by the meeting was the extreme poverty of the region, the joy expressed by the children, the thankfulness of the community and the need for clubs like Calpac to recognize that EDUCATION is the way out of poverty.
SERVICE ABOVE SELF
Ross finished the presentation by stressing that no club funds were used to assist our members to make this journey and that as a club, some 15% of our raised funds are allocated to international projects.
President David gave a well-earned vote of thanks to our members who undertook this trip.
SGT. FINE SESSION:
Appropriate fining occurred, particularly for those members who failed to recognize our current President and those members who are not going to the Toowoomba Conference.
