Calpac Capers 28t July 2022
Meeting on 28th July 2022

International Toast to the Rotary Club of Halifax Harbourside Canada, proposed by Sebastien Mortaud.
This club was formed in 2021 and now has 70 members and their projects include a Carpenters Workshop, Motor Bike touring and Carol Singing during the festive season.

Light Comedic interlude by Les Pontin – some oldies (jokes) but goodies!!

Member Inductions (long time coming for these wonderful people!!!) by Will Waterford, Membership Director
1. Jackie Coward – Introduced by Evelyn McCorkell. Jacki has been to a number of meetings and as she comes from a very caring vocation, nursing, and wishes to expand her caring support for the community, she has been included in the Community Service Directorate.
2. Peter Papp – Introduced by Michael Berris and a nomination / awardee of a Pride in Workmanship award in April 2022. Peter is from Hungary and was accompanied by his wife Melinda (who has also expressed a desire to join the Club); they have two children. His vocation as an Arborist and Landscape gardener fit well with the classification of Environment Committee with Director Matt Lynn.

Vocational Talk:
Evelyn McCorkell
Multitude of “jobs” – on leaving school, starting with the Bank of England (share registry) in London for 8 years, then jobs including the Army Barracks Office in York, working in an English pub and also a commercial traveller’s hotel receptionist in York, delivering mail order catalogues to homes (in the snow) and assistant cook in a primary school in York.
Then to OZ – 8 years secretarial work (4 different positions,  last being to the Company Secretary) with Evans Deakin, several sales jobs including vegetarian sausages to retailers, running a health food shop. Then a big leap into Sales - real estate sales for couple of years, then National Mutual insurance agent (life, income protection and Super) in Brisbane for 11 years.  Great training and experience to set me up for the next big step into our own business selling shipping containers!  Still going after 11 years and still lots of fun talking to clients about their projects and organizing delivery with friendly truckies.   No thoughts of retirement yet, having too much fun.

Two set up days, six student days with six sessions of year, 10 students each day, the coordination of volunteers, Facilitators and Teachers saw 800 students (yes, an exact number), 51 teachers put through the Program. CALPAC Members provided 239 person hours, Caloundra Club 205 person hours with a total of 549 person hours for the two weeks. The editor hastens to add those numbers do not include the large number of hours put in by Neville Woodforth and Geoff Leddy to get us to the starting blocks. Massive effort and great success by all involved.
