Notes from the Changeover Thursday 30th June 2022 for CALPAC Capers OH WHAT A NIGHT!!!!!!!!! The night was opened and very capably MC’ed all night by PP Brian Reith (PHF). Dignitaries’: DG Wendy Protheroe, AG Tony Long and P Jenny Smith – Sumner Park. Jason Hunt MLA was a late apology. - PP Peter Hovey (PHF) delivered the Welcome to Country.
- Brian proposed the Loyal Toast – some people just kept toasting!!!
- PP Barbra Bailey (PHF) delivered Grace which included thanks for the food we received.
- Brian led all present in reciting the Four Way Test
- PP Ken Hinkly (PHF+2) proposed the Toast to Rotary International
- DG Wendy Protheroe – responded to the toast
Three coursed meal was served during proceedings which appeared to be enjoyed by all. Good job Baringa Tavern. - PP Ken Hinkly (PHF+2) updated all on the Club’s donations to the Rotary Foundation. There was some talk about Ken hogging the microphone but really the next guy took that prize!!!!
- P Greig Lee-Archer (now PP) delivered a very long President’s Report. (He said it was all important – but maybe he just wanted the microphone for longer than Ken and it being his last real chance).
Reports from each Director were shared. When you put it all together our Club achieved an enormous amount under (at times) very challenging circumstances. I’m sure if you would like a copy of the Report, Greig can provide one. He has waived the usual fee! In Brief, our major fundraisers / income for the past year were; - The Annual Golf Day raised a massive $26,700 – Well done to our Tony Long for your very valuable organisation and all Members who helped make the day a success. Funds supported Life Flight and Wishlist
- The Opera in the Hangar (as known last year) raised more than $11,000 – Well done to Evelyn McCorkell and everybody involved. This event is now planned to be an annual event. Funds supported ALIVE – (a Group with the focus of) Ending Youth Suicide with an equal amount being directed to a Domestic Violence Program aimed at Perpetrators Thank you to our major sponsor Cirrus Aircraft.
- Christmas Trailer Raffle raised $3,600 with funds disbursed to Angel Flight and DV Safe Phones.
- ROMAC Trivia night achieved a profit of $10,900 and with further donations anticipated could see the total swell to ~$12,000. Thanks to MC Peter Hovey and all those on the bar and selling raffle tickets. A good result given the change of timing (to June) which saw numbers drop to 190. The Trivia night will be back in its usually slot of the first Thursday in March next year.
- The Club received a Donation of $14,000 from Mrs Cynthia Morgan (wife of PP John Morgan -Dec’d – 50 years service) of $14,000 to be used by the CALPAC Board as deemed appropriate. Members have been asked for suggestions however the Board will make the ongoing decision early in the new Rotary year.
Greig did mention that standing there after delivering such a long Report, it was very humbling and indeed emotive, to see everybody standing and applauding. (Little does he know everybody was tired of sitting down for so long and the applause was get movement back in their bodies. - Greig thanked all who had served on his Board for the last 12 months and presented each with a small gift in appreciation. Grieg also presented Suzanne with a beautiful bunch of flowers for her assistance, patience and counsel during the year.
- Following the President’s Report – Greig provided a citation for the Presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF+1) to PP Peter Higgs. Presentation was made by DG Wendy Protheroe.
- Here was what we had all been waiting for. Installation of 2022-23 President Frank Lunt.
DG Wendy Protheroe de-collars P Greig and transferred both Collars (Old and New) to Frank. The Job was done!!! P Frank delivered his acceptance speech and gave all present an insight into what he has planned for the 2022-23 year. Enjoy your year P Frank. - P Frank then surprised all by calling PP Greig to the podium to present a Paul Harris Fellow for service. Award was presented by DG Wendy Protheroe. (fortunately, to everybody’s delight PP Greig kept his acceptance to a minimum – he had no time to prepare, it was such a surprise)
- P Frank introduced his new Board and presented each person with a 2022-23 Board badge.
- PPx3 Graeme Bowden (PHF) and PP Les Pontin (PHF) conducted the Raffle which was run and won by many. A Member was heard to say “Why didn’t PP Greig win a prize – he won all the other chocolates tonight!!!”
- P Frank then presented Suzanne Lee-Archer and Cheryl Leddy (PHF)with flowers and bubbles for their efforts in planning and dressing the room. Thanks should also go to Tania Cherry who was also instrumental in the planning and execution of the themed night.
- The night concluded with our usual rendition of the Australian Nation Anthem led by P Frank.
An enormous thank you to Robyn Hills (PHF) – ROBYN HILLS PHOTOGRAPHY for her usual professionalism in recording the event via her Photographic excellence. A bystander watching Robyn set up the CALPAC Members shot was heard to say – “this is like herding cats!!” Robyn was also required to deputise for husband PP Ross Harrison (PHF+3) as he had a prior engagement. Special mention to Bruce Radford and potential new member Max Mayne for their costumes (amongst so many costumes that were fantastic) which were so good some didn’t recognise them. Eg Suzanne Lee-Archer / Bruce Radford. Well done guys. |
