             Calpac Capers 30th July

At our Meeting this coming Thursday, Barb Bailey will be giving us some information about our involvement in the Christmas Box Project, don't forget to RSVP!

Coming up next week is a vocational visit to the Caloundra RSL Museum - keep this date free - 13th August - plus a meal afterwards!

ACTIVITIES SOME OF OUR MEMBERS HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN OVER THE PAST WEEK OR SO

Thursday 30th July was a very social night - a dozen of us, with nothing better to do, met at Spinners Bar and Bowl and after a bit of organising, 2 groups tested their knees, shoulders and back by participating in one of the two teams of 5 members.   One of two of us did actually get a strike, maybe more by luck than good management as we are certain those floors are not level!   I have to say, the frame that is available for those who can't “bend” was very useful, no strain and sometimes surprising results.   Most of us enjoyed a social beverage and even a slice of pizza, or two.

It's dark and noisy at Spinners so the photos are not bright and clear - probably a good thing!

The Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment (RARE) programme is a volunteer-led RAWCS initiative that collects, refurbishes and redistributes surplus medical, household and educational goods to disadvantaged communities locally and overseas………

Some members couldn't come to Spinners but were very busy with other Rotary activities - these miscellaneous items being sent overseas to needy countries all have to boxed and then packed into shipping containers for transit -

Did you recognise Will Waterford - couldn't see his curly hair!

"I write specifically to THANK YOU for your undoubtedly superior [to mine] skills on the forklift.
Your hopping into the seat allowed me to carry on with other duties and it is very much appreciated.

I was expecting to need hours cleaning up and restacking into sheds after everyone left.
Your most capable assistance shortened my long day by many hours."
Together in Rotary Service,
Phil Saxby BDSc, MDSc, FICD
RARE Northern Region Manager

ROTARY YOUTH DRIVER AWARENESS PROGRAMME has also been going on over the past 2 or 3 weeks and finishes this week - a large number of our members have been involved in this programme held annually at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club at Corbould Park, Caloundra - over 20,000 students have now passed through this programme - let's hope that their attendance has saved a few lives from what they learnt!  These sessions are taught by police, driving instructors and crash survivors.
