Calpac Capers
Mr Lunt's notes from the last meeting 7 Oct 2021
International Toast
Dan T toasted the Rotary Club of Kampala, Uganda. The club meets at 12:30pm every Thursday afternoon at the Sheraton Hotel. The Rotary Club of Kampala is the oldest Rotary club in Uganda having been chartered in 1957. The club grew through the 1960s up to 1971 when the Ugandan President seized control of Uganda in a military coup causing civil unrest. Rotary was branded a Zionist and Imperialist organisation by the regime and several Rotarians lost their lives. Membership picked up after 1977. The club has quite a few successful projects listed on their website including water, sanitation and hygiene projects, family health days and a Rotary hospital in Mukono.

Vocational Talk
Di L went into admirable detail regarding her vocational history. Educated in both Sydney and Brisbane, Di worked for Ansett before residing in Canada and later the Bahamas. Di has worked in a number of hospitals and has volunteered many hours to a number of organisations including Life Line and Wish List.

Director Reports
Treasurer Brian R announced that the 2021 Ian Baker Finch Charity Golf Day is expected to raise over $25,000 after expenses.
Geoff L announced that more volunteers for RYDA are required over the next couple of weeks. Please contact Geoff urgently if you can assist.
President Greig LA thanked everyone for attending the Australian social night the previous week and also thanked everyone for making the Ian Baker Finch Charity Golf Day a success.

Member Moments
Tony L reflected on a very successful golf day and thanked everyone for their contribution. Next years golf day has been penciled in for 7 October 2022.
Ken H announced changes to the microphone/PA system for each meeting.

Guest Speaker
Tony Long spoke movingly and in detail about the work of Humanitarian Projects International. At his own expense, Tony has visited Uganda 7 times since 2016 to help in various projects including renovation of school building and building a boarding house for school children. The initiative does not attract any administration costs resulting in 100% of the funds benefiting the communities. Over the years HPI has expanded to Timor-Leste and Philippines with the same focus on education and health. If you are interested you can buy a bunk bed for the boarding house in Uganda for $130. If interested please contact Greig LA.

Michael and Frank concluded the meeting with a song.

Joke of the week
Teacher: "Kids, what does the chicken give you?"
Student: "Meat!"
Teacher: "Very good! Now what does the pig give you?"
Student: "Bacon!"
Teacher: "Great! And what does the cow give you?"
Student: "Homework!"

A child asked his father, "How were people born?" So his father said, "Adam and Eve made babies, then their babies became adults and made babies, and so on." The child then went to his mother, asked her the same question and she told him, "We were monkeys then we evolved to become like we are now." The child ran back to his father and said, "You lied to me!" His father replied, "No, your mom was talking about her side of the family."
