Last week we had Cathy, the founder of Umoja Orphanage, in Kenya speak to us about the continuing development of the sustainable project. The Umoja Orphanage is a registered charity in Australia and also a registered Rotary project under RAWCS. Cathy let us know a few different ways we could get involved which are highlighted on their website, www.umojahome.com.

I had the honour of attending the Rotary Club's of Alexandra Headlands and Mooloolaba Changeover Dinners last week. Both are very fine clubs and worthy of their recognition in the community. President Paul Warren has the privilege of leading the Rotary Club of Mooloolaba, while Peter Darnell will be President of the Rotary Club of Alexandra Headlands.

I paid particular attention to Alexandra Headlands policy of supporting only three local, non-Rotary charities per a year. I would like to implement a similar idea in our club. Two major charities I would like to support are the RACQ Careflight Rescue Helicopter and Hope Within Reach. As for the third, I would like to support a charity for the disabled. If you have any suggestions please email me (info@calpac.org.au) and/or bring it up at the meeting.

We had a successful BBQ at the Queensland Air Museum over the weekend, and we all admired the Rotary Club of Caloundra's trailer. I would like to suggest that we purchase a similar trailer to keep all our equipment together. Not only will a trailer be easily accessible and transportable, we could avoid issues where we have equipment stored in several different places.

Finally we need a guest speaker for next week's meeting on the 16th of July. Please call or email Will in regards to potential guest speakers.

Have a good week.

Kind Regards,

Dan
