Les, dressed suitably for St Patrick’s Day, opened the meeting and President Dan welcomed all. We had Greg Beard from the Mater Hospitals as our guest speaker and partner Dawn Saunders present.
 
Rotarian David Smith proposed the International Toast to the Rotary Club of Ankara Turkey. It was chartered in 1955 and meets in the Hilton Hotel every Thursday evening. David also announced that he will be a Rotary exchange student. He is going to Lille, France, on a 6 weeks summer exchange.
 
Treasurer Mike Healy announced the results of the Trivia Night. Our club raised $6454 if I heard correctly.
 
Vocational Service Director, Brad presented the Rotarian of the Month Award to Win Fowles.
 
Don Wilkie reported on John Morgan. He is in the dementia ward at the Glebe and that mornings except for Tuesdays would be a good time to visit.
 
RIKI TIKI was conducted by Win a won by Graeme Bowden.
 
SERGEANT at ARMS Peter Asher did a fine job.
 
GUEST SPEAKER Greg Beard was introduced by President Dan. His topic was Mater in the Community.
  • Sisters of Mercy came to Australia from Ireland and established All Hallows School in 1861 followed by the first hospital in 1906.
  • They have high priority on research and education.
  • They always are looking to meet unmet needs in the community.
Greg was thanked by Stan.
 
The Raffle was run and won.
 
President Dan reminded everyone that there is no meeting next Thursday and the following Thursday is Barefoot Bowls at Caloundra Bowls Club.
