Rotary Youth Exchange students will soon be undertaking their final preparations to equip them to be good ambassadors for their parents, their schools, their Communities, their sponsor Rotary Clubs, Rotary International and for Australia. In January, they depart for Japan, France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Denmark, Canada. These are the fine young Australians who have been selected and trained as Rotary District 9600 Outbound Youth Exchange Students.
There is great excitement and eager anticipation among our Outbound Students, who are ready to deal with, learn and absorb new languages, new cultures, new experiences and new challenges outside their comfort zones, while at the same time imparting Australian values and culture as only quality Ambassadors can.
We expect our Outbounders to return to us in a year’s time having made many new friends, gained fond memories that will last a lifetime and achieved new, much higher levels of maturity, self-confidence and self-esteem, as befits the future leaders of Australia.
At this time, we commence the new cycle of recruitment of exchange students for 2016/17. Applications are sought, with your involvement and assistance, from present year 11 students (going into year 12 next year) of above average-intelligence, pleasant personality, with good communication skills and demonstrated leadership abilities and who will be between 15 and 18 years old on 1 August next year.
Initial Application forms (which should be completed in every detail) may be downloaded from our website www.rotaryyouthexchange9600.com.au. This site also provides a great deal of additional useful information about our Program.
It would be useful if you could visit your local school and let teachers and students know of the opportunities provided by the Rotary Youth Exchange program . Although initial application forms are not due until March 2016, students will be now be considering their options post year 12. The decision to become a Rotary Youth Exchange student could change their life for the better, forever.
Because the Rotary Youth Exchange Program involves close interaction with the public, I ask you to extend the courtesy to applicants of acknowledging the receipt of their application and notifying them when Club interviews will be held (after the closing date for applications). I sincerely hope your club will seriously consider participating in this wonderful program. If your Club will not be participating in the program, please notify applicants of this promptly so that they can make alternative arrangements.
We continue to rely on your enthusiastic participation in our Program which is greatly appreciated.
