Opera in the Hangar Fundraiser
What a wonderful night of surprises we were in store for at the inaugural Caloundra Pacific Rotary Club Opera in the Hangar Fundraiser. The representatives of the beneficiaries, Tamsyn Rosenberg from Alive and Renee Welsh from Reset, seemed to enjoy themselves.

We had it all, glitz, glamour, food, wine, lively entertainment, a terrific crowd and not to mention the "thunderous" applause that greeted the performance.

Congratulations must go to Evelyn and her team for the job well done.

Meeting Notes 28 October 2021
President Greig
Welcomed visiting Rotarian Stuart Coward, partners John Deakin and May Gowlett as well as visitors Paul Mortaud and Ruby (Barb’s granddaughter).
Guest speaker is Graeme Smith.

President Greig
District AGM is on 7 November.
There will be a social night at Mercedes Benz at Maroochydore on 2 December. Robyn Hill will have her book launch there.
Greig asked us all to make sure we are getting out of Rotary all that we want, if not please talk to Greig or any of the members of the board.

International Toast
Graeme B proposed the toast to the Rotary Club of Abergele, Wales. They were chartered in 1972 and their current President is Peter Hughes. One of their major projects is Chernobyl Children Lifeline – where they bring children from Chernobyl to Wales for a holiday. They also made a generous donation in support of the victims of the 2011 floods.

Induction of Sebastien Mortaud
Matt Lyn conducted the induction ceremony. Sebastien was proposed by Will and was accepted by the board. His classification will be Marketeer and will be in the Community Service Committee.

Directors Moments
  • Treasurer Brian encouraged to read the audited accounts prior to the AGM on 9 December, 2021.
  • Evelyn – Opera in the Hangar is on this Saturday. Gates open 4.30, bar at 5.00, starts at 7.00 pm. Attire is black tie (very smart casual).

  • Bonnie is collecting for the Christmas hamper appeal for the Share a Meal Project.

Vocational Talk
Frank Lunt gave an entertaining talk on his career selection process – selecting the education stream that had the best female to male ratio!
His career started out in a one teacher school and finally ending when he was in charge of an adult education school. He found teaching adults to be particularly rewarding. Computer skills was not one of Frank’s fortes.

Guest Speaker - Graeme Smith
Graeme Smith from the Pumicestone Catchment Management Body gave an impassioned talk on the future of the Pumicestone Passage.
Some highlights:-
  • Catchment area is 785 sq kms.
  • Includes 18 creeks.
  • Home to turtles, dugongs, over 350 species of birds and an estimated 59 rare or threatened species.
  • Needs monitoring of water and sediment quality.
  • Needs a management plan and a waterway authority.

Our next guest speaker

On the 18th Dr Rizsa Albarracin talks to the club about the Shepherds Arms Foundation.
