Board Meeting Summary – 1 June 2026
President's Report: President David Wallis opened by expressing his appreciation for the board's efforts during his recent absence, noting the club is in "good shape" heading into the changeover period.
Membership: Two potential new members have applied via ClubRunner and follow-up is in progress. Will Waterford continues to progress membership initiatives.
International Service: The teachers' accommodation at Buyasan School in the Philippines is virtually complete, with just bunk beds and cabinets still to be installed. An informal handover is planned for 9 June, coinciding with the start of the school year, with the official handover scheduled for July when club members will travel to the Philippines to paint the external walls and install the Rotary plaque acknowledging Caloundra Pacific, Buderim and Noosa clubs as sponsors. The board agreed that President David should write a letter of thanks to the Rotary Club of Cauayan for their tremendous support throughout the project. A district grant application of $8,500 has also been lodged for a new water supply project at the school and barangay hall, where existing wells have run dry, leaving students and teachers hauling water by bucket from a nearby river.
Youth Service: The RYDA committee will hold a special meeting to resolve the transfer of funds from Caloundra club, with Jax Tyres having generously donated new tyres for the RYDA trailer. The board approved a $1,000 donation to the Umoja Orphanage in Kenya, ahead of Noel and Bronwynne Bates travelling there in August to provide hands-on assistance.
Vocational Service: Dr Michael Karpa, whose employee recently received a Vocational Excellence Award, will be sponsoring a team at the upcoming Golf Day — a great example of the connections our vocational work creates in the community.
Club Service: After careful consideration, the board decided not to hold a "Music in the Hangar" event this year, citing economic conditions and a lack of sponsors.
Finance & Budget: Treasurer Clive Seymour presented the April financial report, which was approved by the board. For FY27, the board adopted Scenario 3 of the proposed budget, under which the project account will fund 100% of the public liability insurance, allowing annual membership dues to be reduced from $380 to $320. An explanatory memo will be sent to all members ahead of the Special General Meeting on 4 June, where the formal motion on the venue change and new dues will be considered. Online voting will be available for those unable to attend.
Other Business: The board approved spending up to $50 each on appreciation gifts for the Golf Club's catering and bar staff. On the topic of the potential venue move to the Power Boat Club, the board agreed that the club TV would be donated to the Golf Club if the move proceeds. The Secretary will also investigate local government grant options for a replacement club laptop. The District 9620 General Meeting via Zoom is scheduled for 26 June, with Greig Lee-Archer asked to act as the club's proxy.
Next Meeting: Monday 22 June 2026 at 6:00pm, 20 Pathfinder Drive, Caloundra West.
